Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year!

Christmas Eve at Wally"s apt,

You know the story of the shoemaker's kids not having any shoes? Well, we've been getting out great Holiday cards for our great clients - but have not had a chance to work on our own - we did take some nice groups photos on Christmas Eve - so here is a card from our family to yours...- Just a little late!

Happy New Year from Wally Spice Photography and WSP Seniors!

A huge THANK YOU to all of our wonderful clients and friends for the fantastic year of 2011 in our business. Thank you all for your love, confidence, encouragement and support!

It was definitely a year of growth and change as we had our first full year in our new studio space in Warren! Julie and I had so much fun fixing it up, accumulating countless chairs, backgrounds, lights, props, office furnishings, etc. to make it our studio home and office area, and we LOVE it!  It has evolved so much since we first started and will always be a work in progress!  It was hectic, crazy, and busy at times but we loved every minute!

We still photographed about 20 weddings and enjoyed each and every one.  We had the best brides and grooms to work with and the most awesome locations.  We especially loved all the varying locations for Romantics, like our very favorite Urban Shoots in Detroit, which have become a specialty for us.

This is the year we really launched our High School Senior program in earnest.  Last year we photographed about 8 seniors, but this year that went to at least 65!!  Julie has been the creative mastermind behind this and I am so proud of her.  We all loved the fantastic Senior Safari  for our models in early May and this grew to so many fantastic sessions!  Everyone commented that we were so refreshingly different.  We designed a dedicated logo and name for our senior division and decided to give the seniors their own Facebook fan page.  It grew from just a handful to over 500 fans in a very short time!   We have separate albums for our major locations: Locations - Urban Shoot (Detroit),  Rochester,  Studio,  Sterling Heights, and Plymouth. Be sure to check out www.facebook.com/WSPseniors.wallyspicephotography We LOVE our fans!

We also enjoyed photographing quite a few babies, children and families, many from our former brides who will always enjoy free studio sessions (files and prints not included).  It is heartwarming to see our bridal couples become loyal clients and friends as their families grow. And we sincerely appreciate the referrals!

Our main Fan Page for Wally Spice Photography has also been very active and popular, especially for the weddings and portraits as well as some of the other unique events we photographed.  Be sure to check out www.facebook.com/wallyspicephotography We have links to our fan pages on the menu bar!

I am also so proud that both of Julie's sons (my grandsons) have been active this year working with us.  Aaron did a lot of assisting on the weddings, contributing some awesome images.  He also helped with some of the endless editing.  Steven has shown a great interest too, he loved photographing the high school football games and also assisted on some senior sessions.  This has truly been a family business and we all love it!

I do feel bad that this blog has not been as active this year as it has in the past years, it was an extremely busy year as we grew our horizons and our face book fan pages have taken up the slack, but this will be better next year. We are also looking to update and improve our actual website this year, but the blog will stay intact.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your continuing support as we venture into another exciting year! We learned so much this great 2011, that 2012 will be even better and bigger!

HAPPY NEW YEAR -

Wally, Julie, Aaron, Steven

One more chance to have a free photo with Santa and see our new studio space

Our last 2 open houses for our Grand Opening of our New Studio space went very well - Thank you for your donations to the Gleaners food bank and thank you for coming in to see us.  Everyone loved Santa and their free photo and often we had a chance to take a few more candids around the studio. We had many say how much they enjoyed bringing their kids to visit Santa and many asked us if we were going to be doing it again. So...we are now answering with YES, for one last time, on Sunday, December 19th from noon until 3pm, we will be offering this again. We are asking you to bring a donation of food that we will be donating to the Gleaners Food Bank. And of course have a free photo with Santa.

Please see the details in the new flyer that I am attaching.  Hope to see you there!!

Sunset at the Zoo Fundraiser and Charity Event 6-19-09

Julie and I came home from Florida just in time to photograph for the Sunset at the Zoo Charity Event - as we did last year. Our friend and awesome Senior photographer David Humphrey  Joined us this year.   We all offered our photographic services and enjoyed the evening. This year they were very organized and had us at specific areas with a suggested shot list. We even had our own "volunteer' working with us that got photo releases signed anytime we had a group of people smiling for the cameras. We also donated a session and some items for the blind auction on behalf of Wally Spice Photography and David also donated 2 session for his company "Masters Photography" in Flint.

The big main auction had to switched to the big tent with weather threatening and still did terrific. I believe they raised at least 100,000 just for that.

As the auction finished the rain really did start and we were all warned to leave because of a huge very severe  storm coming - and it did - rained so hard and so much lightning and thunder.  We were all very much the drowned rats when we finally got to the cars.

It was still a great evening, the rain held off until the end, lots of people still came, the Zoo still raised a lot of money and we had fun. It is great to help such a deserving charity as the Zoo. We love it!

Some photos soon to come!

Family Session at the Henry Ford Estate

At the beginning of July we photographed Rachel and Peter and their family at the beautiful historic Henry Ford Estate. The children were darling and they had brought their Model T along for some great images.  We all had a great time making the rounds of the grounds. We had donated a Family Session to a silent auction earlier and they were the wining bid.  It is always great to be a small part of helping to preserve this historical landmark.

Family Session at the Park Place Hotel in Rochester

On June 8th we did a family group session at the Rochester Park Place Hotel after a birthday party they had there for the grandparents. When Julie's youngest son Steven was taking Karate a few years back, Jackie was one of his instructors so it was great to work with her entire family here. We did lots of groups inside and then went outside to where the Pain Creek comes through for some phenomenal images down by the river. This is just a small sampling of the many groups and images we were able to take.

The  Drake Family won the winning bid for the silent auction we donated to last month for the !st United Methodist Church of Troy. We photographed their portrait session in Rochester by the Paint Creek River area. It was a gorgeous area and we all had a lot of fun. I worked with the files to design a portrait album - and these are a few pages from that.  This is something we would like to offer more of. Rochester Family

My trip to Alaska this spring

From April 23rd to May 5th I was fortunate enough to vist my daughter Tracy, her husband Rick and my darling little 18 month old grandson Gunther in Alaska.  It is so hard being so far away and I just had to find the time to visit.  The best part was getting to know little Gunther - he was so expressive and cuddly - beyond adorable and cute!  It is so nice to see him so at home in their gorgeous surroundings in the mountains - what a great place for a little boy to grow up. I actually did have my laptop and was able to keep up with e-mails and get some work done.  I was able to work on a few album designs on the airplane.

Tracy has a lot of the best of our individual images on her Flickr site at: www.flickr.com/photos/spicegirl

I have all my collages on my flickr site at: www.flickr.com/photos/wallyspice Take a look at the Animoto Flash Slideshow I made:" (Cut and paste link if need be) http://vodpod.com/watch/748954-a-n-i-m-o-t-o-spring-2008-alaska-trip?pod=wallyspice

This is also part of my pod of videos that I made and collected at: http://wallyspice.vodpod.com/?page=1

These are just a few - there are too many to post here - needless to say I had a great time and loved every minute.

Ranger Bay - Portrait Session

On November 26th Julie and I did a very unique portrait session for a very unique little boy and his parents.  Ranger Bay is turning 3 and he is a very good little dirt bike rider. His dad and family has all been into racing and Ranger is destined to go to the racing circuit. His whole world revolves around racing and driving his dirt bike - even if it still has training wheels when he drives it. You can tell this is the world that makes this family very happy.  It was very interesting.  His mom is a friend of Patty's, whose wedding we just photographed  in September. Heather and Jeff October 27, 2007

On October 27th we photographed the beautiful wedding of Heather and Jeff. The ceremony was at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak and then on to the historic Pine Knob Mansion in Clarkston. The weather was cold and windy, but the fall color was fabulous and we got some terrific romantic photographs with them outside while we could.  The reception was a lot of fun. Sharon and Jason Family Session

On November 17th we photograpahed a family sesson for Sharon and Jason and their little girl Audry at the Detroit Zoo.  We started in the Butterfly House, then the Bird Avery and even tried some outside. WE had a lot of fun and got some great images, even though she got a little tired at one time.  WE had photographed Sharon and Jason's wedding back in 2002 so it was gfreart to see tham again.  They were purchasing their negatives and high res scans so that they could archive them for their family history. This is something we are doing for any couple whos wedding was more than 2 years ago. Sharon and Jason Family Session

Timing Update & Site for 2007 Holiday Specials

Julie and I are running a little behind right now in the editing of the weddings, but we are working very hard to get them on line as quickly as possible. The fall has been our very busiest time - photographing 14 weddings from the middle of September to the first weekend in November.  We loved every one of these and are very grateful.   I have been busy with album designs also to get out some of those those gorgeous albums in time for holiday delivery.  My blog updates are also a little behind because we are concentrating on getting out the main uploads, but will try to catch up here also. We have also enjoyed photographing some family groups and engagement sessions which will be featured here also.

We have a web site page live right now - in all browsers (that was a problem at first) that has some of the specials we have going on right now in time for the holidays.  We still have time to make reprints, and even Holiday cards.  Any order of reprints from the online proofing that is over $100 will automatically be discounted 10% by myself when I adjust the totals. Gift certificates are always a great idea also.

Family Session in Adrian

On August 17we photographed a family session in Adrian Michigan.  Cassie and Corey were a bridal couple we photographed a few years ago and this included them and there son Edison, as well as her brother Jason and his wife Emily and their son Jackson and their parents Barb and Gary. The beautiful property backed into a little stream and we had a lot of fun. We even got everyone into one big family photo as well as all the smaller family units. The special session with Edison for his first birthday photos was also fun and we  got a lot of great images. Cassey Corey

Monica’s Quinceanera June 9th

One of our fellow photographers from the Detroit Professional Photographers Association - Fred Mora, just had his daughter Monica celebrate her Quincienera. This is a touching and elaborate Mexican celebration, on her 15th birthday to commemorate her transition of becoming a young lady from a little girl. Julie and I helped with the photography and enjoyed learning about the new traditions. Fred monica
